Police arrested a 40 year old man on a murder compliant in connection with two hit and run crashes that investigators believe targeted homeless people in Tulsa.

Jeremy Thacker was arrested early this week on complaints of first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon.  According to a police spokeswoman, Thacker didn’t speak to detectives, but the damage on his truck was consistent to both crashes that were under investigation.  Police recovered a white pickup truck near a rock quarry in north Tulsa that detectives linked to the attacks on homeless people.  Thacker was arrested a short time later.

The first crash was Monday morning under an interstate overpass and appeared to be a deliberate attack.  Police said a pickup truck circled the block a couple of times before coming back, driving up over the curb and driving down the sidewalk to run over individuals.  The officer said there is no way this could have been an accident.

46 year old Shawn Birdo was killed and 49 year old Cynthia Wallace was hospitalized with severe injuries.  Both of the victims were asleep at the time of the attack.  Another man at the site suffered a minor leg injury.

Later that day, a homeless woman was hospitalized after her legs were run over in a separate assault.  The police report indicates the driver swerved to hit the woman who was sitting on the curb.  The driver was described as a white male in his 40s.
