A total of six candidates have filed for the Kay County Commissioner District No. 1 seat. Five of them are Republicans and they will compete in the Sept. 12 Primary Election.
The Republicans include Jay Thomas Kirkendall, 46, Duane Ernest Vap, 60, Jerald Dwain Stone, 78, Allen Wade Hardesty, 68, and Jack Ivan Godberson, 69.
The winner will take on Democrat John Otto Leven, 55, in the Nov. 14 General Election.
The winner of the November election will hold the county commissioner seat until it comes up for election again in 2018.
Besides the commission seat coming up for election again in 2018 will be three other county officials, including the county assessor position, county treasurer and District No. 3 seat.
Filing for those four positions will be held in April of 2018 and the election in June.
