ARKANSAS CITY, KAN. – Last week’s flooding caused major issues across the area. In Southern Kansas, minimal flood damage was done in the Ark City area, but the East Chestnut Avenue Bridge in Arkansas City suffered extensive damage after water from the Walnut River covered the bridge and even broke the guard rails. Engineers from MKEC inspected the bridge Monday afternoon. No structural damage was done to the bridge, but the bridge will not be passable until the guard rails are replaced up to current standards. The road will also be graveled for the time being.

Up the highway north in Winfield, Barn 4 at the Cowley County Fairgrounds suffered from flood damage. There has also been damage reported to the asphalt in the fairgrounds parking area.
