An Injury collision occurred Monday, September 9, 2018 at approximately 11:37 a.m. on I-35 northbound at MM 208. Located 5.4 miles south and 1.5 miles west of Tonkawa in Kay County. What happened was that vehicle 1 was driving northbound on I-35 and departed the roadway to the left for approximately 177 feet and struck a culvert, went airborn for approximately 30 feet, struck the ground, continued through the grass median and came to a rest.

Within the vehicle were four passengers. Passenger-1: James E. Peterson, a 78-year-old male from Oklahoma City, was not injured. Passenger-2: Delbert Ray William, an 83-year-old male from Oklahoma City, refused treatment on scene and was later to Blackwell Hospital where he was treated and released. Passenger-3: Dorothy E. Turner, a 79-year-old female from Bethany, OK, was transported by ambulance to Blackwell Hospital, then transferred to Integris Baptist in Oklahoma City in stable condition. with trunk internal injuries. Passenger-4: Donald Wayne Willoughby, a 76-year-old male from Oklahoma City, was transported by ambulance to Blackwell Hospital then transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in stable condition with trunk internal injuries.

The condition of driver vehicle 1 is apparently normal, and the cause of the collision is inattention.

Seatbelts were equipped and in use by driver, passenger 1 and passenger 3, but not in use by passenger 2 and passenger 4. No one was ejected from the vehicle.
