PONCA CITY – An injury collision occurred at approximately 8:07 a.m. on Thursday morning on U.S. 77 1.3 miles north of Ponca City in Kay County.
According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Dispatch K, Kallen Smail, 39, of Winfield, Ks. was driving southbound on U.S. 77, departed the roadway to the right for approximately .2 miles. Smail then vaulted over railroad tracks, went airborne for approximately 90 ft., struck the ground, rolled an unknown amount of times and came to a rest on it’s wheels approximately 145 ft. from the initial point of impact.
Smail was later transported by ambulance to Alliance Health in Ponca City in stable condition with head and trunk internal injuries. Smail’s passenger, Joen Masaichy Luden, 47, of Sioux City, IA., was not injured.
When investigating the scene, OHP picked up the scent of alcohol on Smail which led to him receiving a DUI.
