Kay and Osage counties both have one new COVID-19 case; Statewide total now at 5,849

The Oklahoma State Department of Health released their daily update on Friday, May 22 that shows an additional 169 positive cases of COVID-19 were documented, bringing Oklahoma’s overall total to 5,849 since testing started.

Local reports show that Kay and Osage counties each have one new COVID-19 case. For active cases, Kay has three, Osage with five, Garfield with two and Payne with one. Ponca City has three active cases in the area. No active cases for Grant, Logan, Noble and Pawnee counties.

Three more Oklahomans have died from COVID-19 to put the state’s virus-related death toll at 307. One death occurred since Thursday, while the other two happened between May 17-20.

  • A female in Oklahoma County in the 65 or older age group.
  • A Tulsa County male in the 65 or older age group.
  • A Texas County male in the 50-64 age group.

OSDH also reports that 172 more Oklahomans have recovered from COVID-19 as the state’s recovery total is now at 4,533. Officials say that there have been 926 total hospitalizations and 190 people currently hospitalized.
