NEWKIRK – After the flooding that occurred in the month of May across Kay County, Kay County Sheriff Steve Kelley asked county commissioners on Monday for assistance in purchasing a rescue boat for the Sheriff’s Department.

Kelley says anytime they get a phone call for a water rescue, they have to call in Oklahoma Highway Patrol which can take some time. Kelley called out six different independent boaters, who volunteered their time and fuel to help during the floods.

Kelley was able to find boats that were on sale, and even said he would build a place to store a boat.
