Kay County Sheriff’s Office notified about social security scam

NEWKIRK – The Kay County Sheriff’s Office was recently alerted by a citizen of a social security scam.

The following is from the Kay County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook: “Citizen received a call from a local Newkirk phone number saying they were from social security and needed me to call officer? Because my SSN had been used in southern Texas Mexico area. When they pushed # I on the phone as requested the person answered they were foreign and I asked who it was they kept saying who is this. I said I was reporting this number for fraud they hung up.”

Please be careful when speaking with scam artists. Do NOT ever give your personal information over the phone.
