I hope you were able to access your child’s Continuous Learning Activities, either by downloading them from the district website, www.pcps.us, or by picking up the packets Monday evening. We distributed over 1,500 packets curbside in two hours! From the response of our parents, it sounds like the issues were minimal for the first round of activities. We appreciate your positive comments, and we are working on ideas to improve as we progress through May 8, the last day for Continuous Learning.
Now that our alternative method of learning is back in session, we want to encourage our students by letting them know we are here for them, we support them, and we miss them. Please see the following:
- Each Friday night from 9:00 PM-10:00 PM, we are going to light up one of our stadiums to signify we are here and miss our students. Friday Night Lights will be part of our routine. Please see the following schedule: Friday, April 10 – Ponca City High School Baseball Field – 5th Street Friday, April 17 – Ponca City High School Softball Field –Behind West Middle School Friday, April 24 – Sullins Stadium – 5th and Brookfield Friday, May 1 – Ponca City High School Soccer Practice Field – Behind West Middle School Friday, May 8 – All 4 of the mentioned fields will have Friday Night Lights shining!
- Each Thursday morning between 9:00 AM & 12:00 PM, our elementary sites will begin replicating their morning assembly from a distance and will post the assemblies on school Facebook pages, and they will be posted on the District Facebook page as well.
- As we continue to receive more guidelines From Governor Stitt and State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Joy Hofmeister, we will certainly keep you informed of plans to celebrate our seniors. We have several options in mind if we cannot provide traditional options, which is our hope!
I cannot urge families enough to NOT allow Continuous Learning to be an additional stressor for you during these uncertain times. We want our students to stay engaged and for us to stay connected. We WILL work with every parent, and principals at all schools will be in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM to help with any need you may have. Not all activities have to be completed and there are options for both online and at home activities.
During turbulent times, it is important for all of us to extend grace as we navigate an era we have not experienced. PCPS will extend grace to our families and help as much as we possibly can. We are available by phone or email and will make every accommodation possible to provide support. We are hopeful our families will extend grace to us as we work through issues that are new to us, too. Thank you for your patience, support, and ideas. We truly love our students, families, and community, and we appreciate everyone being a part of TEAM PCPS.
