Petition Filed In Suspension Of Pawnee Nation President

PAWNEE, Okla. – The Pawnee Nation’s Attorney General filed a petition with the Pawnee Nation Tribal Court on Tuesday that resulted in a verbal suspension of President James Whiteshirt of the Pawnee Business Council based on actions that occurred on the afternoon of Friday, August 16, 2019.

In a press release from the Pawnee Nation, an investigation surrounding the given incident later took place. Following the investigation, it was determined that Whiteshirt’s suspension should be lifted, and a motion was filed in the court on August 20, 2019. The actions led to a wrongful suspension, but it was necessary to handle the incident according to the Attorney General’s determination. It was also determined that a Petition for restraining order would be filed against certain persons involved with the incident. The petition was filed at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
