PONCA CITY – Ponca City Senior High School will be offering a new course called Wildcat Way for incoming freshmen next year. Wildcat Way will provide freshmen students with information and tools to help them succeed at Po-Hi. The goal is to get students supported and started in a more purposeful and organized manner.
All freshmen students will be enrolled in the Wildcat Way class during the fall semester and receive an elective credit for this course. Wildcat Way is essentially a Po-Hi orientation. Students will learn rules, expectations, habits, successful practices, and Po-Hi history. Students will also receive information about the club and activity opportunities at Po-Hi and meet some of their current members. During this course, students can also maintain their Individual Career Academic Plan (ICAP) account and improve reading skills. Students will complete Oklahoma ACE Graduation Requirements such as Personal Financial Literacy and CPR Awareness. Wildcat Way teachers will provide additional support by monitoring all grades and attendance while freshmen adjust socially and academically to high school.
With all incoming freshmen being enrolled in this course, there will not be a “Freshmen Orientation” meeting in August before school starts. Schedule pick-up for freshmen students will be Thursday, August 8 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., and make-up for all grades will be 3:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. At this time, students will use their schedules on PowerSchool to walk their classes, find their lockers, get their photo Ids and pay Chromebook fees. Students will also be able to shop the spirit mall and purchase spirit items from booster clubs.
