Ponca City High School to Present Treasure Island

The Wildcat Theatre Company at Po-Hi has been given the go-ahead to complete production of Treasure Island for two shows only. PCPS Theatre Director Ami Nichols explained, “It was to have taken place the week after spring break in March, but was sidelined, along with everything else, by the pandemic. In an abundance of caution, because we care about our students and our audiences—we will be producing the show OUTSIDE. We will be maintaining social distancing, monitoring temperatures, and following strict sanitation guidelines to keep everyone safe both during rehearsals and during the performances themselves.”

The play will be presented in the courtyard at the City Central building on 5th street in Ponca City. The show will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 24 and 25 in the City Central Courtyard. Preferred seating tickets are $15; 1st tier tickets are $10 with chairs provided in those areas. The tickets for the upper level of the courtyard are $5 each, and patrons are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Tickets can be reserved in advance by going to the PCPS website and clicking on the MySchoolBucks button. Scroll through the various district fundraisers until you find Treasure Island Tickets. Souvenirs and t-shirts will also be sold on performance nights.

The Ponca City Development Authority is partnering with Po-Hi to support the fledgling theatre program. PCPS Theatre Director Ami Nichols explained, “We are also proud to announce that we will be having several seniors, who were denied their final performance of the season because of the virus, return to perform their roles in this production.”

Ken Ludwig’s Treasure Island is based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson and will be swashbuckling good fun for the entire family. Come follow the story of the brave Jim Hawkins as he navigates his way among bloodthirsty pirates to find not only the magnificent treasure of the infamous Captain Flint—but a true friend along the way.
