NEWKIRK – A Ponca City man entered a no contest plea in the Kay County District Court in Newkirk earlier this week.
William Bear Overland, 21, faces a felony charge of 2nd degree murder after the body of Brittany Kayleen Adams, 20, was found in an apartment room at Timbers. Overland told police he got into a fight with Adams on April 3 which ended up being physical. Overland admitted to hitting Adams several times and leaving her in her apartment. She was found dead two weeks later. (See story here)
Overland was later arrested by the Bureau of Indian Affairs on south U.S. 177 on domestic abuse and burglary warrants.
According to court documents, Overland received 40 years in prison for the murder charge. However, after serving 25 years, the remaining balance will be suspended. Overland is to commit no further law violations, and must be under DOC supervision for a period of two years. Overland also received 20 years on two charges of injuring a public building.
