PONCA CITY – Based on recommendations from an Oklahoma State Department of Mental Health (OSDMH) Suicide Prevention Expert, the Ponca City School district is offering “Healing After Suicide in a School Community: Helping Parents Help Their Kids” training.
The district has been working closely with this expert and the OSDMH to offer healing and support for district staff, parents, and students. They recommended the district train all staff members first, which the district provided on the September 16 professional development day.
The next steps are to offer training to parents in November, and student training will be offered in classroom settings in January. The dates, times and locations for parent training are listed below.
PCPS District Therapist Kirk Hollis will present the recommended parent training, which is designed only for parents, guardians, or other adults. Each training session should last about an hour with time for questions. The district will be offering the training on three evenings the week of November 18. The dates are as follows:
Monday, November 18
Tuesday, November 19
East Middle School Auditorium
Thursday, November 21
West Middle School Auditorium
