Suspect Wanted, Victim Identified In Wednesday Night Ponca City Shooting

UPDATE: Suspect is in custody Thursday night in Stillwater.

PONCA CITY – The Ponca City Police Department is continuing to search for a suspect floowing a shooting that involved a man getting shot in the head.

Detective Captain Kevin Jeffries states that on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at approximately 9:58 p.m., Officers and an ambulance responded to the 700 block of North Pine St. for a report of gunshots heard at a residence.

The male victim was found with a single gunshot wound to the head and transported from the scene and flown to Mercy Hospital in Wichita, KS. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Van Jade Chatfield III of Ponca City. During the course of the investigation, 26-year-old Harvey Duane Atkins III was developed as the suspect in this shooting.
