According to The Ponca City News, an injury accident was reported on Friday, August 3 at 6:14 p.m. seven miles north of Newkirk on US Highway 77 south of Judo Road. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Maranda Coggins of Blackwell was waiting to make a left turn onto northbound US 77 in a 2000 Toyota Sienna Van where she crossed in front of a 2007 Toyota Rav4 SUV driven by 52-year-old Debra Brown of Longton, Kansas. Brown swerved to attempt to miss the vehicle, but ended up hitting the vehicle on the driver’s side. The impact caused the vehicle to turn clockwise as it came to a rest in the east ditch of the roadway. Coggins and her passenger, a seven-year-old juvenile from Blackwell, were not injured. Brown and her passenger 79-year-old Mary Bryant of Longdon, Kansas were both transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center. Brown was treated and released, while Bryant was admitted with head, trunk internal and leg injuries. The cause of the collision was listed as failure to yield.
