WINFIELD, KAN. – A Wichita man was arrested early Sunday morning at the Winfield City Lake after firing a gun near other campers.

Winfield officers, along with Cowley County Sheriff’s deputies, responded at 1:27 a.m. Sunday to the north side of the lake for a report of a male shot a handgun towards a juvenile. The male suspect left the area once officials responded, but returned to the lake later on. Officers arrived at the lake and arrested 26-year-old James Richards Jr. of Wichita.

Richards was quickly detained and placed under arrest and transported to the Cowley County Jail, where he was booked on charges of aggrivated child endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm, interference with law enforcement and criminal possession of a weapon.

Richards has a $12,500 bond, and a court appearance is set for Monday, June 26.
