The body of a man who had been going down the Colorado River on a wooden raft has been discovered in Grand Canyon National Park, officials said.
According to a statement from the National Park Service, Thomas Robinson, 58, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, attempted to travel down the Colorado River on a wooden raft with his dog before abandoning the vessel at Lees Ferry, just a few miles south of Arizona’s Utah border.
On Friday, National Park Service workers received notification of a body in the Colorado River near River Mile 6.
Park officials stated, “Park rangers responded, recovered the body, transported it to Lees Ferry, and then transferred it to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.” “Based on initial information, the body appears to be that of the missing person, Thomas L. Robison.” “The Coconino County Medical Examiner will confirm the positive identification.”
The circumstances behind Robinson’s death are yet unknown, and the inquiry is ongoing. Furthermore, authorities did not reveal the dog’s whereabouts or whether it survived.
Park officials said they would not release any more information about this case at this time.
